Menu Plan Monday - August 29th - Pepperoni Casserole

Hello, hello! I did pretty well with accomplishing my menu plan last week and am looking forward to posting the recipes that we enjoyed. I've also begun to rate my dishes out of 5! I just find that I try so many recipes and I used to just put a star to know that I've tried it and enjoyed it, but with the new system if it only got 3.5 stars for example I can consider ways to make it better whereas 4.5/5 stars...don't touch!

Menu Plan Monday - August 22nd - BHG Diabetic Recipes Pt. 2

So last week I did pretty good with my meal plan. The Grilled Greek Chicken Sandwiches and Layered Southwestern Salad were a hit. I didn't end up making the Chicken with Cornmeal Dumplings, instead I did Ginger Lime Chicken Fingers and I'm a little confused about why I would think ginger and lime are good together...I didn't like them. And I didn't end up getting beef to make the stew so we'll save that recipe for fall.
I'm trying a few other new recipes this week from the same book...

Menu Plan Monday - August 15th - BHG Best Diabetic Recipes

So I know it's still summer and hard to plan ahead for everything...but you want to know a secret?? I don't always make the meals I have planned! I know right? But sometimes things pop up, friends pop over etc but it's still nice to know that I have everything on hand to make what I want when I want even if it doesn't always happen.

I have a few new recipes to try from my new cookbook called "Our Best Diabetic Recipes" from Better Homes and Gardens 2011. I LOVE that it isn't just another splenda cookbook! I've tried a couple of the cookie recipes and they turned out pretty good. One of them I'll tweak a tad, but the other I really liked.

I also just checked out the website and found a TON more to try! YUM!!

Menu Plan Monday - August 8th

Hello, how are your meals going lately? Mine would be a disaster if I didn't plan ahead. No literally, a disaster. If I don't know what I'm going to make, I just won't make anything until hubby complains that he's hungry and then maybe I'll throw in some chicken fingers and perogies and frozen corn if he's lucky! lol. Not that he minds, he would love chicken fingers every night!

But for my own sanity it's so helpful to have a menu planned and know that I have all the ingredients on  hand to make everything too.

Monday
Creamy Dilled Shrimp - yes again! This was soo good! See the "recipe" here

Tuesday
Rosemary Dijon Chicken
Bacon Glazed Potatoes
Cucumber Salad

Wednesday
Death by Tuna Salad

Thursday

Friday

Devilled Eggs
Strawberry Walnut Salad over Spinach with Poppyseed Dressing

Saturday

Sunday
Late lunch - hamburgers/hot dogs

52 Weeks of Organizing * Inside the Fridge *

Can we do it?? Yes we Can!!
So here goes nothin', I've been doing this for a couple weeks now and tracking my progress. I printed a blank list to organize my 52 weeks of organizing from Organizing Junkie. I'm just filling it in with things that need to be done as I go. Surprisingly I only have about 20 things on there right now!

The first thing I did was organize the fridge. I was really not impressed with the original layout. The top shelf kept freezing so it always ruined my eggs. The water and yogurt, things I use all the time were in the worst spot for bending over. And all the “middle” stuff was hard to reach.

So I did some thinking and came up with this....

PS. Baskets are amazing for holding smaller items that can get lost in the back!
One more pic....ahhh that feels so much better!

Menu Plan Monday * Week of July 4th

Hello everyone and welcome to my second week of posting my menu plan! I've always done menu planning to some extent otherwise all we would eat is chicken fingers and perogies :( As much as hubby says he would enjoy that I know it's important it is for our bodies, and our budget! to keep healthy food on the table. If you don't know I also have a slight case of diabetes so my menu will be very low in sugar but I love to sweeten my food and drinks with Stevia, so you'll be sure to see her name around here again!

Monday
Soya Lime Chicken
Corn on the Cob

Tuesday
Pork Ribs on the grill

Wednesday
BBQ Downtown

Thursday
Homemade Pizza Pops- freeze extra for lunches

Friday
Lemon Dill Fish

Saturday
Carribean Pork and Rice

Sunday
Late lunch - hamburgers

Hmm...that's alot of food! We may have to cut one day out and just have leftovers :P

Happy Anniversary to ME! (3rd :))

This morning was errr... interesting. All I can say is I'm glad hubby went out of our room first this morning because otherwise somebody woulda gotta hurt REAL bad.

And no it wasn't the cat who wreaked such havoc. It was the puppy. We  have 2 boxers and they usually sleep in the bed with us but we decided to lock them out last night for the first time in a long time and apparently it didn't go over well.
And this was only one half of the room there were 4 balls of yarn on the other side too but I got them all wrapped up before I thought to take a picture. As much fun as staging it would've been...

So on that note, Happy Anniversary to ME!

What do we have planned for today?
Well if you recall yesterdays meal plan I'm going to be making Roasted Salmon with lemon relish, Lemon Spaghetti and a Layered Salad. I haven't decided where to eat it, I'm thinking outside might be nice. Gramma and Grampa will be taking the baby. Woot!

And then I really want to go camping in the backyard! I'll take some pics and let you know how that pans out. Hubby isn't too thrilled with the idea. :(

Menu Plan Monday - Anniversary - Roasted Salmon w Lemon Relish

Helloo everyone and welcome to my first Menu Plan Monday blog post!

I am feeling pretty fabulous today as it is 9:35 and the baby is still sleeping! Hooray for extra sleep!
I've been busy working on more summer cotton hats to bring to Lil Bit Baby, and toying with the idea of having a Farmers Market Table either at the Town Center on Saturday mornings or at the Riverbank Discovery Center on Thursday evenings. The Riverbank one doesn't start until July 7th so I'm going to wait and check it out before I make my final decision.

I also got some really cute girly cotton which you will see in upcoming hats and the 2 in 1 belt/headbands!

Now here we go!

Monday:
Leftovers

Tuesday: (3rd Anniversary!)
Lemon Spaghetti
Layered Lettuce Salad - This will last us most if not the rest of the week :) (Recipe to come!)

Wednesday:
Mushroom Pork and Spinach Salad
Pasta with Pesto

Thursday:
Hamburger Stroganoff
Frozen Veggies

Friday: (Canada Day!)
Leftovers/Probably eat out

Saturday:
Grilled Steak
Broccoli Salad
Corn on the cob

Sunday:
Spelt Flax Hamburgers (Recipe to come!)
Salad
Chips
Corn on the cob

And there you have it!
I planned this menu on Thursday when our local fliers came out and got chips, hamburger, corn on the cob, broccoli, lettuce, mushrooms and bacon on sale at various stores.

Better than Mr. Brown - Teddy Bear Names

Mr. Brown...Brownie...Tedddy? We all know that children can come up with the most "original" names for their teddy bears, but more often than not most of them go without names. All those poor nameless teddy bears sitting in the toy box. And after a few years go by do you even remember who gave them to your baby, or for what occasion? Maybe, but it's even more unlikely that your child will!

Here's a few ideas for keeping up with and keeping track of all those teddies!

-Name them after the people who gave them to your children by using their last name, nickname, or even their middle name. For example Mitchell, Shorty, or Katie

-Name them using a trait about the person who gave the teddy that also fits with the teddy. For example Cuddle Bear or Doodle Bear.

-Name them by the occasion. For example Birthday Bear.

-Name them using your first language, or the language of your favorite country. For example Uno, which would also work for a first birthday.

When your children are old enough to name their bears for themselves feel free to help them out, or look up teddy bear names together.

Still stuck? View a list of teddy bear names at Bear Dictionary to get your imagination flowing.

Now, don't leave all those teddies nameless! Get to work!

And while you're at it go through your old teddies and downsize. No one needs 50 teddy bears! Only keep the bears that a) you would like your grandchildren to have or b) your children love. The rest are just clutter.

Comments
How do you store your teddies? Do you have a special place for any of them?

Flier Shopping

It seems that every month our food bills overtake our budget so we have to keep looking for better ways to cut costs.
The past couple weeks I've seriously begun flier shopping. I print off my grocery list from organizing junkie, and on the back I write down every deal I may wish to purchase from every stores flier and I list it all by the store.
Then you can make your menu plan based on the sale items and the items you already have on hand.
The trick is to look in EVERY flier not just the grocery store you regularly shop at, sometimes there's better deals at the more expensive stores. So I will usually make a stop to my regular grocery store and one or two other stores just for the sale items. Make sure to buy enough to last until the next sale. My favorite stores for sales are Sobeys and Canadian Tire.

This week a few of the notable sales I saw were...

Walmart
Delissio Pizza 4.97
Purex bathroom tissue 9.97

Sobeys
cracker barrel cheese BOGO
1 lb strawberries 99 cents
silhouette yogurt BOGO
white mushrooms BOGO
gala apples 99 cents/lb
broccoli 1.29
banana bread BOGO
digestive cookies BOGO
cheese strings BOGO
sugar snap peas BOGO

Canadian Tire
inflatable queen bed with air pump 21.99
stainless steel grill basket 5.99
20-35% off method cleaners

And this is the front although as you can see I haven't totally filled it in yet :) I didn't use a few of my dinners last week so I've just filled them in here and there throughout this week.

I love my grocery list :) Where do you get your grocery list from? How do you keep track of sale items?

Happy Shopping!
